Eleven Life Lessons from Bill Gates
"Wonderful, David! Two things I Did hear in high school were: 1.-From my 9th grade Biology teacher - if we were really destined to be a genius, 90% of what we contribute would be pre age 25 - and that we'd then spend the rest of our life trying unsuccessfully to repeat it. 2.-Via my 12th grade chemistry teacher as to what he told us he told our parents on Parent/Teacher day - everyone thinks their kid is a genius, but in truth - most of you are really just "average". I loved it at the time - straight talk, not the usual BS we're told as kids. Duncan"Privacy Woes: iPhone and iPad Secretly Track and Record Your Whereabouts
"Interesting, Ivan! It would indeed be alarming but for the fact that Anything with built-in GPS is tracking wherever it goes without our permission. The Gubmen have full access to all data stored in the "black boxes" - such as our movements, and things like car crash data. (Insurance companies have crash info access, too - in case the policy holder is in violation.) Duncan"Looking for Good Employees? Try Using Referrals as a Hiring Tool

This is especially true if it's a personal friend of a manager or supervisor. ('Been there.) Duncan "8 Reasons I Do NOT Follow Like Connect on Social Networking Sites
"Hi Sherryl, I agree with all your reasons, and also won't follow anyone who tweets too much, regardless of the quality of their tweets. If they have 15k tweets, and I check their page & see tweets every couple minutes, I won't follow back - I don't want them dominating my page. I always err on the side of caution. Duncan"Subscribe
Setting the Temperature: How Hot Are You?
"Hi Jan, I agree if you mean the person with the most personality in the room at any given time. If the CEO is across town in a suite, they don't have quite so much influence as a co-worker 10 feet away. As an employee, I never gave a hoot in hell about the CEO located just 10 miles away, but my co-workers definitely did affect me. Duncan"
