"SarahJantsch, I like this article a lot and think it has many valid points. But I also think that free is a good thing and it doesn't have to erode value. My example would be the good old library. It's free. It has a lot of value. And it has done nothing to eliminate bookstores or amazon.com. You may have to wait a while to get your hands on the newest bestseller though. The only downfall, as you have no doubt seen on Seinfeld, is that book you didn't return decades ago. As far as free content watering down social communities, I think Bizsugar proves the hypothesis wrong. Once the spam is eliminated there remains a pretty good selection of quality material. "David, I'm voting for this for two reasons. The first is that it is an informative video. The second is because of how many times you and your interviewee say 'SHIT.' I think it is refreshing to hear. My husband uses foul language in his blog sometimes to get a point across and each time gets an email or two about how his foul language offends. "Leslie, I think ethics are dying in a lot of business sectors. Running up prices. Price-gouging. Not backing up claims. Taking advantage of unsuspecting people. It's endemic. But I was watching this show with my husband that we love, it's called "Pawn Stars", obviously a word play on Porn Stars. Anyways, it's a really cool show in America on the History Channel. This family runs a really high end pawn shop in Las Vegas. People bring in all kinds of valuables to sell. Antiques. Artwork. Artifacts and all kinds of expensive stuff. Usually the guys that run the store try to haggle down to get the lowest price. They are good at it and usually win. So last week this lady brings in a really old doll and the grandfather asks how much she wants for it. She says $400. The "old man" as they call him says he'll give her the $400. No haggling. Then he says to her, "I'll actually give you $800. He says "I don't think you know what you have here and I don't want to take advantage of you." That's when I thought to myself. Geez! "Susan, I like external the best. It can be financial, the weather, and even a fashion statement that changes everything. Kate Middleton was upposed to be the belle of the ball at the royal wedding. Then her sister showed her up. Kate's fashions were supposed to be the newest trend but now everybody wants to look like her sister and everything needs to be redesigned. Very nice article as always.
