"Alastair, I had a supervisor many years ago who actively solicited proposals for streamlining the business. Once I submitted a proposal to him; I thought it was really good. He said "I just don't know if it'll work." He was a very shifty guy. About a week later he introduced the proposal in a team meeeting...as his own! I'm not one to take that lying down. I confronted him in front of everybody including the owner and adamantly stated/yelled that it was my idea. Why was he taking the credit? The supervisor in question accused me of not being a team player. It pissed me off and sapped my motivation. It also made me fantasize for the remainder of my tenure about tying him up, blindfolding him, sticking a sock in his mouth, throwing him in the trunk of my car, driving him across the Mexican border and throwing him out with a sign that said "I am a snitch trying to infiltrate a cocaine cartel." How to beat the instant gratification before it ruins your business
"Timo, I remember the marshmallow study well as well as some similar tests they have done on monkeys. I think instant gratification is embedded in our psyche. We are a society that doesn't like waiting. Look at people's faces who are lined up at fast-food joints. Their mouths are watering. They are fidgety. They have that far-off look in their eyes. They could go sit down and get a nice meal in a diner but that would entail waiting 15 minutes...not an option :( NOW!!!!!!!! Yoni "
