Thanks so much for sharing Nellie's post. Conversations like these are so important, and not just among friends and family members. Understanding who contributes what in a startup and what this means in terms of equity is critical. It's the reason detailed contracts are drawn up and lengthy negotiations are held when investors enter the picture or when a company goes public. Founders make a mistake when they fail to define equity at the beginning of the process simply because there doesn't yet seem to be any value to have equity in.

You're absolutely right! I see entrepreneurs suffer through so many unnecessary headaches way too often because they don't address these issues at the outset. I wish more aspiring entrepreneurs would realize the importance of everything being hashed out before stuff gets messy.
