When to change business strategy
"I think there's a natural inclination to resist changing strategy, probably an overcompensation for the temptation to change direction every time you fail to see results. A watched pot never boils, they often say. Which is why you should never compulsively watch your Website stats. Sometimes it takes time for a new product or service to catch on. And it helps to be realistic when introducing a new service about how long it may take to catch on. It took me little time to get interest in my business when I launched it half a year ago but a good deal longer to get paying customers. Yet, changing course too much in the earliest days would have been a mistake. It's probably somewhat harder to figure out whether to give up on a new business idea than to figure out whether to change course on an operating one where you have some kind of numbers on which to base your opinion. "5 Mistakes I Made When I Started My Business & How to Avoid Them
"Think everyone is definitely afraid of the first one of these. However, frankly I've also seen people price themselves too high. I KNOW this is an unpopular thing to say. You shouldn't compete on price alone to be sure. But if the majority of people interested in your product or service simply feel it isn't worth what you think it is, you're in trouble."Likability For International And Social Media Communication
"Tone is the most important part of social media. And just as when you speak to others in a face to face social setting, it's very subjective. It's based on the interpretation of the listener. This is what makes the art of social media so challenging. In the end being yourself is the best solution, because a carefully crafted persona is difficult to maintain and will sometimes backfire "The Multiple Facets Of International Sales Preparation
"Cindy, One of the biggest challenges we face frankly is not being able to focus on just one country or culture because the majority of our business comes in the way of inquiries due to social permission marketing. Since this kind of marketing almost always involves customers making the first move to request more information about our products or services, it's hard to even know who I will be speaking to until the conversation begins. Some of these spontaneous conversations have gone well and since in some cases we have not gotten the business, I can only assume some have not. "20 CREATIVE Business Cards
"Ha! Awesome. Think my favorite was the divorce lawyer's card ripped in half, though I think there's a fine line between creativity and sending the wrong message. For a really cool, and, I think, viral business card idea, see my post "Turn your business card into marketing tool" and be sure to click through Guy's blog post to see the video about how this "sticky" card works."Manage Your Time As You Manage Your Money
"This is probably the hardest lesson to learn and one I still struggle with. Maybe we all do. Some people translate this into working constantly because time is like money and they want to use it wisely. But, of course, constant work with no leisure time planned in will quickly lead to lower productivity, a wandering mind, etc. All the necessary uses of time are important. Just as money cannot be spent only on business, time cannot be spent only on work. This is not wise time management."Subscribe
When Excellent Customer Service Can Be a Waste of Time
"I really agree with this post, Susan, and I think the point sometimes is what you are doing to grow your business as much as it is what you are doing for the customers you already have. This doesn't mean you should do poor work for existing customers, but unless you're in a business in which you need only a few clients to make a profit you must focus on growing your business first and foremost. You can do more for customers who do more for you but ultimately it is not a one way street."
