Are You Making Enough Profit to Grow?
"Good food for thought on growth and profit margins. Of course, the best approach of all is to keep expenses as low as possible in the beginning to develop cash flow. Try consulting or another low cost service that requires only your time and experience. Then invest as you develop cash flow in new products or services. Avoid big investments with high risk on return favoring small investments with greater return on products that can be sold immediately. Focus on increasing overall cash flow while keeping expenses low and avoid adding fixed overhead too soon before you can be sure of stable earnings. Partner with other entrepreneurs to scale your business without adding staff thus avoiding another fixed cost that may need to be scaled back when times are tough. "How to create an effective marketing strategy | Duct Tape Marketing
"Think this is a good approach so long as you don't commit to a failed strategy and then stick to it for fear of appearing undecided. There is a huge difference between a flavor of the week marketing approach and allowing your business to evolve. See trends that naturally lend themselves to your business approach? Don't be afraid to pursue them in favor of a pre-existing strategy."One Page Small Business Marketing Plan - Easy!
"I'm pretty amazed sometimes how few people think in simple terms of what they need to do to get customers. It seems to me that sometimes there's a disconnect between putting their product or service together and just simply telling people about it. When I started my last business, I sent out e-mails to everyone I knew (not overly promotional just basically explaining what I was doing and telling them that if there was anyone they knew who needed the service they should contact me). Believe it or not, I got results. Then, of course, with targeted comments (the same thing just kind of explaining my service) in targeted social network pages, more results. I'm not putting this out to brag. Things get harder after the first few clients. You can't necessarily reuse the same channels or annoy people. But think about who you need to talk to and just do it. It's been my marketing plan so far."10 Tips for Using Google Alerts in Your Small Business
"Cindy, The amazing thing, from the standpoint of blogging and business I guess, is the number of links you will find that you may never locate with a general Google search, even on the same keywords. This is because the Alerts are based on fresh posts only for these keywords even though the posts themselves may rank very low in general searches because of other factors like inbound links and how they compare to other older sites in authority."7 Ways Auto Dealers Can Fail at Social Media Marketing
"Agreed, Skip. This kind of post, which basically accepts the inherent need for social media marketing and sets out to create a series of best practices, makes you just think about all those posts by people who insist there's nothing to this whole social media thing and shake your head."Attract and Retain Customers with Partner Marketing
"Susan, Collaborative approaches with other small businesses can allow you to leverage incredible resources that might have taken an independent entrepreneur years to build up. Communications and distribution channels, complementary products you didn't have the time or resources to develop on your own. You name it. All are possible when small entrepreneurs team up. Don't worry about there being more slices of pie to divide. Instead, remember that the pie you would have baked on your own would have been much smaller."Subscribe
Why you have to engage in social media, even if you don't want to
"As a professional blogger, I'm not going to argue with you about the importance of blogs, Jason. Or social media for that matter. However, I would like to point out that one of the real problems with the herd mentality of late adopters is that they decide to do what everyone else is doing. And this is precisely why they don't stand out. Once in the market, they have extravagant expectations about what all of this will do and mean for their business. Their blog has been up and running for three weeks. Does it have 10 thousand hits yet? They're thinking about putting up a blog and maybe posting once a month when they SHOULD be thinking about video pod casts to further set their business apart. A pod cast? What ARE these geeks talking about now?!!!"
