Dear United Airlines: Build Community Around This Dave Carroll Catastrophe
"Angela, I still find it amazing that companies, even big ones, can allow such a thing to snowball. Catastrophe is right. I still think one of the big differences between large and small business is responsiveness to this kind of thing. We all know if something like this happened with one of our customers we would freak out and do whatever was necessary to set things right. (At least if we had any intention of remaining in business.) What happens to companies as they grow that makes them actually believe such nonsense will go unchallenged?"Do You Use Time Wisely?
"Ah! Not using time wisely! It's a problem with priorities mainly, I guess. But worst of all, it sometimes doesn't feel like a decision even when it really is. When I look back at some of the opportunities I most regret not taking, I'm not sure I made a conscious decision to ignore any of them. I simply didn't use my time wisely to make what was most important my priority. By contrast, when I think of opportunities I spent the time to explore fully, even if they never worked out, I never feel the time was wasted. "Marketing to the Social Web and the New Rules of Engagement
"The idea of brand as dialog is most interesting since this certainly also has to do with how services and products might be created in the first place. If you find and engage a community this helps you in your efforts to figure out what needs that group might have that you can fill. This conversation then helps to define your brand as opposed to a marketing message and brand developed in a vacuum which will never be tested until you find out whether or not it will resonate with potential customers and clients."6 Tips for Better Branding Using Avatars
"Personal brand is one of the most challenging aspects of online business, particularly if you happen to be involved in more than one business at the same time. This is even more the case if the businesses do not even happen to be in the same field. Though it would be easier to be involved in one or a number of businesses in a related field this is not always possible, especially in a difficult economy. So crafting a personal brand, or maybe several personal brands for your various endeavors becomes even more important. "Recession Recipe: drive more sales | Biz Money Matters |
"Astounding! A business leader who is not simply trying to cut back but is actually focusing on positive solutions like increasing revenue as a solution for the recession! You must not have gotten the memo about completely giving in to negativism and despair. This will never do. You will end up succeeding if you are not careful. And where will we be then? "How to Make Your Tweets More Useful
"The real problem with social media is that few things work the same way twice. That's why it's often better to look at social media from the standpoint of long term engagement and long term investment. Almost every investment I have made in blogs or social media has moved my business forward in many unpredictable ways. So from my perspective, they have paid off. But predicting ahead of time what the exact results of a campaign will be is another matter."Small Biz Survival: 18 Blog post ideas for any small business
"Really like this article. I'm always amazed when clients ask me, but what could you blog about. They've been involved in their business too long to realize how interesting it is. I, on the other hand, usually have a million questions about everything they do. The answer to each one can be a blog post."Subscribe
Sales Loudmouth: A Distinction Shared by None
"Though I think it's probably a good idea to always seek out your boss in such situations and determine their impression of your performance, it's probably also a good idea for a manager or owner to be clear about expectations. In the end, the company suffered from this decision with a less experienced sales manager who I'm guessing didn't do much for sales revenue. What more could have been accomplished by simply trying to rectify the situation first instead of taking a grass is greener attitude with human resources? "
