Lessons Learned From Marketing Smarter, Faster, Cheaper
"Hey David, Great lessons here. I think an important point to make is that buying ads in and of itself isn't bad. Neither is any other marketing strategy. These are just tools. The key is to use them correctly for a desired result. In other words strategy."Sales Tip A Day: Spreading the Word Through a Network - Adding Video to Facebook
"Hi Chris, Great post and video tutorial here about combining tools (video, Facebook) for more effective marketing. This touches on the point that marketing is really about combining various tools effectively and not about the superiority of a single tool that will magically solve all of your marketing problems. For more on that discussion today here on BizSugar, check out John Wheeler's post (have you met John?) on BizNetCentral and feel free to join the conversation happening in the comment section under the link. "Tim, It's a chicken or the egg thing really, but I strongly suspect that following or community has to come first. Otherwise, who will be listening? Of course, what content producers also must realize is that communities are not all created equal. Certainly, when it comes time for a business model, it must fit with the community you have created, and perhaps that's really where some strategies need to be thought of upfront. "How a Simple Business Plan can Get you from A to Z, and Navigate all Things In-Between
"Great post on business plans. I think what everyone gets stuck on, and what always intimidated me when I was getting started, is that somehow if your plan isn't in the right format or created the right way it will impact your business. But unless you plan to go for funding immediately, something very few entrepreneurs these days are doing anyway with tight financing from banks and other lenders, is that really a business plan only has to be useful to you. (And maybe to a couple of other people who are working with you.) You can even update it as you go along and things change. A business plan doesn't need to be in any particular form. It's just got to be something you can refer to while running your business day to day."Subscribe
Startups are Low Risk Compared to Work-at-Home
"Hi Martin, Agree with you about many "business opportunities." The main problem is that, whether the system is real or a scam, it is still someone else's business model not yours. The other problem is that, just like buying a franchise, it is necessary to really understand basic business principles first. You cannot buy a money machine (or a job) that will simply make a living for you without any effort on your part. Your business must create value and you must have a plan for successfully marketing this value to others. If you don't know how a model creates value and have no plan or don't think you need a plan to market that value, you are in serious trouble. Finally, it's sad these things are called work-at-home businesses, because it devalues working at home even though doing so, if applicable to your business model, is probably the best way of cutting down on overhead for your startup. The problem isn't working at home. It's what you're doing there. "
