"Unfortunately, you can pretty much blame social bookmarking sites for the "5 ways to..." thing. What might have been unique takes on a subject turn into one more list because it works. Headlines are crucial and pandering to listophelia (not sure that's a real word :) ) and 5 second attention spans gets clicks and votes.
