Moving Nowhere Online – An SME Case Study
"Hi SB. I might forgive a moving company for not having the slickest, most up-to-date website - their business is moving stuff, not endlessly tweaking their homepage. But that's because of their niche - the same would not apply in my view to many other businesses - especially businesses that are centered in cyberspace. i.e. I see the moving company's website as an online yellow-pages ad - it doesn't really matter how tech savvy they are if they're good movers. "I agree about the lack of reply - I almost always email before buying to find out whether something's in stock, who they use for shipping. etc. If I don't get a quick reply, they're off my radar for good. There are people who specialize in hand-made items - they spend all day making their stuff - they're used to postage-stamp sized ads in the back of niche magazines - I don't care what their website looks like, because they aren't in the website business. I can think of other examples where the site is relatively meaningless as to their quality of merchandise or service - some of these people have waiting lists of several years, that's how good their stuff is, and how in-demand they are. Nobody cares if their site is flashy. Duncan"Less is More - How and Why You Can Cash in on Festivities for Business
"Interesting, Mariam. In the U.S., I'm wary of pop-up businesses - here they sell electronics, watches, appliances, "starving artist" paintings, and virtually anything else - but since they're here today & gone tomorrow, there's no recourse if there's a problem with the merchandise. They usually advertise in the paper, selling at very low prices - then get out of town fast. Duncan"Deepen Your Expertise To Enjoy Marketing Success
"I really like the doctor example, Susan. As someone who worked in a teaching hospital, I appreciate what they go through to get their "piece of paper". With all the attending physicians over-seeing their training as externs, interns, residents, and fellows, they aren't allowed to "fudge" the results - they perform, or are drummed out. "Interesting, Frank. As a Boomer (meaning geezer), I was an adult before vidya games hit. I never got the bug, like a lot of people my age - but some I know did, bigtime. For example, the pop-up balloon that one must chase all over the screen to X it out just annoys the heck out of me, while there may be people who think it's fun. Duncan"Subscribe
The Customers Nobody Wants: Can Your Small Business Profit from the Deal Seeker?
"Hi Adam. My Dad was a coupon guy like Yoni's Mom - he'd use a coupon for an $8 lunch when across the street the standard meal was $6. The coupon was just too alluring. He had a basket in the kitchen with about 80 restaurant marmalades he'd pocketed (he figured he'd paid for them). Duncan"
