When social media refuses to get along. - Lone Prairie Art
"Fantastic post! Why don't they (the various social media) just play nice together? My own pet peeves are: Why doesn't HootSuite allow Facebook tagging? If you want to tag, you'll just have to go to Facebook itself, kinda defeating the purpose of using the Facebook feed in HootSuite, huh? Also, Google+ and Facebook, why can't you just import your friends from one into the other? The closest you can get is importing friends into Yahoo email, then into Google from Yahoo. But still, it's only by email addresses, so it's limited. What do you think? Oh, by the way, I'm with you on the Verizon sucks thing: I moved and they never told me that I'd lose my email addresses, that they couldn't just transfer them to my new account. They could tell a person, right? Great post, keep submitting them!"Are Online Companies Using the Wrong Data to Measure Success?
"Whether traffic is a good measure for success is determined by what your goals are for the site. For instance, if you're trying to get people to just see ads and maybe click through, that's a different goal from selling a product or service. Also, there's a problem with using conversions as a gauge. Actually, for your own info, it's fine--we all like to be honest with ourselves. But there's no way we could believe the conversion rate of other sites is accurate (is there?) since the site's owners report that and they usually have their own motivations for inflating that number publicly. What do you think?"What Zappos.com Can Teach You about Turning Customers into Mega Fans
"Great customer service story, Justin. Doing this type of thing really isn't that difficult, but employees need to be encouraged to do so, rewarded for doing so, and definitely compensated for going over and above. I hate to take the employee side of things, but it's from personal experience. I once worked at a hotel (long ago) that encouraged its employees to add personal touches like this to the guest experience, however management often failed to back up employees decisions to reward or acknowledge customers, even though this acknowledgment was supposed to be at the employees discretion. The employees were hamstrung. I think Zappos is a great example, but small businesses should make sure it's within their budgets to provide this type of customer service and that employees are supported in doing so. Great post!"The Five Most Common Canonical Tag Errors
"Yikes! Looks like an error doing this will definitely result in the image you have on the post--defeated, head in hands. I didn't know about canonical tags--I guess my HTML class never covered them--but you learn something every day! Thanks for the informative post."How The Heck Can McDonald's Let This Happen?
"Joel, they're letting it happen because they've lost sight of their bread and butter core. They're trying to be all things to all people, to compete with the slow food movement, new nutrition, other franchises--even Starbucks, and very good publicity on their very scary food safety/nutrition practices. They should keep it simple, for those who will still eat the pink slime burgers and like them. No offense if you eat there. But isn't the problem that they're getting too unfocused, spreading their concept too thin? What do you think?"Have You Heard? Leading The Work Team Is Your Best Bet To Grow
"I hate to admit it, but I love to be team leader. This is a role that rotates in my team, a decision which we made part of our charter. And yes, the assumption is that there are always going to be problems. How you deal with them is what matters, and that's where empathy comes into play; however, in IT and computer science there seems to be a lack of empathetic people--which I guess creates the opportunity I'm working towards--becoming a business or systems analyst, working with teams, techs, and clients to facilitate understanding and solution implementation. Anyway, great advice!"4 Amazing Tricks To Understand How Your Employees Think And Behave
"Warren, I've not taken the DISC assessment, however I've taken a few of the other, similar assessments for my bachelor's program, which is cohort-based. We had extensive testing so that the college could group us into cohesive teams, which we belong to throughout the degree program, working closely on team projects with a massive number of deliverables. Surprisingly, I found the assessment to be totally accurate. Unfortunately, in life and in teams, you don't always get to work with or work for those people whose personalities compliment your own. Just my 2 cents! Interesting post."Subscribe
Perhaps the Most Important Step to Creating a Thriving and Profitable Business
"Steve, Love the idea of a portable brand, and that's really what we're doing with social media everyday (and with most other kinds of effective marketing, I guess.) Still beats loading your customers in a van and bringing them to your business, though.:) Nice insights!"
