How to Challenge Assumptions in Your Leadership
"It's always a good idea to challenge assumptions, not only when walking into a new business situation, but now and again, to remain fresh. It's tempting to walk into a role, clean and set up house, and function on autopilot from there on in. Asking "Why do we do this?" periodically is a great way clean out the cobwebs and adapt to rapidly changing situations--to be agile. Great post!"Effective Leaders Stimulates Creativity
"It's definitely true that great leaders not only inspire their teams/employees to develop great solutions to complicated problems, but also allow them the freedom to implement their solutions. These leaders lead by freedom and by providing guidance and inspiration. But leadership is definitely not management. Yet managers, for some reason, are often confused--they think they are automatic leaders because they're bosses. But management principles run totally opposite to leadership principles. What do you think?"Why You Should Be Marketing to Women Online
"Yes indeed, women are quite a market and well worth the time doing social media where they too are active. I think women simply use more products than men do, products of all sorts involved in daily life, from the absolutely necessary to the trivial. And, often women, even when working, run the household and manage the family, so they're the purchasers, even if the money comes from both the man's and woman's salaries. Personally, I don't know too many families where the man spends time balancing the books. Actually, it's a little strange. I think men are less particular than women about creature comforts too, so they leave it up to the woman to procure the necessities to keep themselves happy. Interesting!"Shanai shoshin - Promotion from within
"Yes, it's totally true that generalists balance out and may even win over specialists in Japan, however in the U.S. it seems that we're looking for ever more specialized skills in our employees. The difference is that our specialized skills are not specific to particular companies so much as specific to platforms, (I guess I'm referring mainly to IT since it's my own area of expertise). Here, this kind of specialization is what seems in demand in the job market. Just IMHO. Thanks for the post!"Is Your Snarky Online Attitude, Keeping You from Being Successful?
"Snarky attitudes are definitely a hindrance to business. I never really could understand why some people engage in it, because it ALWAYS backfires and makes you look really bad. It's just a PR mistake, and it lessens one's credibility. Good post!"Work Smarter, Not Harder (Infographic)
"Awesome infographic, but I'm not sure I could follow all those tips for working smarter. There gets to be a point at which one is spending more time implementing the tips than actually getting work done. But it looks great, and there are some actionable recommendations there. Thanks for the post!"Subscribe
Successful Startups Often Come With a High Price
"Martin, another great post. I have to admit, I'm becoming a bit of a groupie for your posts. There's a lot of dross out there on the Internet, so it's refreshing to see consistent, relevant, and truly helpful content like yours. As far as the article, what scares me is that I have fallen into some of these same traps, especially where the business is running me rather than the other way around. But live and learn. Thanks for the post!"
