Online Marketing: Why Some Forum Backlinks Are Baaaaad
"Hi Joel, All great points. We might also mention that too many links from unrelated Websites and so many of them appearing all at once might just draw the attention of Google ultimately hurting your Website's search rank and traffic. Thanks to the new Penguin update Google rolled out last week, there's a danged that even relevant anchor text from these forums if wrapped in content that otherwise seems obviously unrelated could also land you in hot water with the search engine. It's more important than ever to pay attention to the quality of the sites linking to you and paying someone for more than 1,000 links is NOT a step in the right direction. "What Will You Do When Your Passion Disappears?
"Purpose over passion--I think that's great advice for sustaining entrepreneurial efforts, especially for bootstrappers whose businesses are often running them rather than the other way around. Perhaps converting that passion to purpose will help them transition and reverse that. Great advice--I'm going to take it and run with it. Thanks!"What Will You Do When Your Passion Disappears?
"Larry, no problem. Let's just say that I've been pushing on a certain entrepreneurial front for a while, and honestly I was starting to feel at a bit of a loss. It's funny how just getting an outside perspective can help open the doors and blow in a fresh breeze! I'll be looking for more of your posts, for sure. Have a great weekend!"Proofread...then Proofread Again
"I'm not defending making typos or doing shoddy work, but what I absolutely hate is when "editors" rework whole articles not for spelling, grammar, or style, but in order to put their stamp on the work, to make their mark, or justify their purpose as an "editor". In my humble opinion, editors should be catching the typos and usage issues, not drastically altering work to make it their own. "It will be interesting to see if PayPal makes significant inroads for this service. I, for one, trust PayPal a bit more as it's been around for a while. Also, I currently use PayPal for other services, so it's not that big a jump for me to try this one. It's true that for name recognition, PayPal wins hands down. Thanks for submitting this great post!"If You Don't Know Where You Are Going, Any Road Will Get You There
"I think this is all great advice--basically approaching your goals by acting as a project manager for your own objectives. However, I do question if this approach tends to run counter to the creative mentality. Many extremely creative, inventive people I know are a complete mess when it comes to time, goal, and life management. Some I know can do both, but when they do the first (being their own PM) the latter (their creativity) suffers greatly. Perhaps business people who are not artists do not have this problem, however many artists would like to capitalize off of their art by starting a business. Are those people just doomed to fail? Or do they just have to surround themselves with business types? It's an interesting post, but not a one size fits all. Thanks!"Google joins cloud race with 'Drive'
"I am looking forward to using Google Drive for video. Right now I use Dropbox and Lockbox, both of which handle large files pretty well, but I'm looking for more collaborative tools than just throwing my files into the cloud. This sounds good, but I'm not a real fan of Googledocs, which is not as collaborative as I'd like. Thanks for the heads-up!"Subscribe
Are We Speaking The Customer's Language?
"I can't say how many times that I, as a customer, have been alienated by language used by salespeople, chock full of jargon to make them sound like they know something. I think the best way to speak the customers' language is to make things simple and direct and mainly point out the value your product or service will provide them. I'm in IT, and the jargon is rife, so it's refreshing to hear a more direct approach, even between departments. Interesting post!"
