Does it Feel Frothy...Or Is It Just Me?
"It's not you, it's getting a bit "frothy" out there in today's business cappuccino. I think a lot of people like the idea of bootstrapping a business, and this may lead to the problem: When people dump a lot of the old assumptions about starting a business, like the one where you need to do a 5 year financial projection, people also tend to dump the important things, like developing the actual business model. They confuse bootstrapping with running out, willy-nilly, and just starting up a business, and we all know that it's not the same thing. Good post!"What do American engineers want?
"Another fascinating article on the differences in perspective between American and Japanese business/tech culture. As I read it, I have to admit (as an American) it would be difficult for me to flourish in the Japanese environment. All my excitement and creativity would be dampened, and my morale would sink. But obviously Japanese tech and engineering are great, so it must work for them. Time will tell if the cultures will synthesize in business, or if one perspective will win out over the other. But I have to say, most of what the article characterizes as the Japanese perspective goes against the individualism of the West. Hmmm...food for thought, though. Thanks for another great post!"The Big Picture Trumps Technology Every Time
"Martin, this is really great advice! How many MIT graduates with the latest technological development take the same amount of time to develop their business model?...or even hire/partner with the right person to do so? The only thing is, when I think "big picture" I'm not automatically equating that with business planning only...I'm thinking that there is also a big picture in the IT part. The fact is, though, that both IT and business people alike get lost in the details without looking at the overall picture. In that sense, totally agree. Great post!"How Bootstrapping Could Be Hurting Your Business
"I can see your point, however a lot of bootstrappers just don't have the funds to invest in some of these traditional methods of advertising. I do agree there are some low or no cost methods they could take advantage of, though. We are all pretty caught up in the world of online these days, but I think the key is to spend some time on strategy, focus those online efforts, and do only the low/no cost rather than delay starting up a business. Food for thought."Subscribe
The Two Kinds of B2B Keywords
"Nick, that's a great two-pronged attack to B2B SEO. It seems simple, but so many businesses don't use these great tips. Thanks!"
