Three-Fourths of Employees Plan to Quit When Economy Improves
"interesting that salary and other measurable benefits are top of the list for employees seeking new jobs as opposed to work/life balance. Will this be a positive or negative thing when it comes to small businesses retaining their employees?"Managing Office Politics in a Small Business Setting
"It's true that there seems to be no way, as an employee, to avoid office politics, no matter how small the business. My hope is that, as an entrepreneur, I can one day define my corporate culture in such a way as to avoid the worst of it. Reading this post, I found it depressing, because no matter how great people are as individuals, once they get together in the work environment the worst comes out...and I believe it's all because of fear. Fear of losing one's job, of not moving up, going forward, being last, fear of failure, whatever. Good post, but depressing."Great Talent Begins with a Great Job Description
"Creating a great job description seems to be a lost art these days. Too few business owners seem clear enough in their minds what exactly they need done when they hire for a new position. This can lead to hiring the wrong person or simply hiring a person without clear enough delineation of their duties. As a result, a business owner will end up either needing to dismiss the employee and start the process over again, redefine an employee's duties usually causing frustration for everyone involved or eventually hire yet another employee to cover the additional duties not being adequately handled by the first employee."Subscribe
Should I Start or Buy a Business?
"Hi Susan, I think this really comes down to the personality of the entrepreneur. Are you a pioneer preferring to operate without a road map of any kind or do you prefer to take over an existing operation and improve upon it? There are other things to consider when making the choice, but it probably comes down mainly to the kind of business and the temperament of the entrepreneur. Use your instincts on this one."
