Links And International Social Networking
"Cindy, as a professional blogger who works extensively with SEO, I can tell you that your gut feeling is absolutely right here. Yes, I consider optimizing for keywords when linking in my blog posts to other blogs and sources. Yes, it would be nice if a fraction of those I link to take the time to visit my site, refer a friend or even better link to me. But in the end, the simple consideration I always use when linking to another site is whether the content is good for my site. I use the same set of criteria when deciding whether to accept a link exchange proposal. (Actually, MANY link exchange proposals demonstrate all too clearly that the person sending the request did not even bother to look at your site.) Also, when I blog for a client, I would be doing them a disservice to be anything less than honest when choosing anchor text for links to their sites. Link building strategies are fine, but other blogs should link to you because they want to and believe your content has relevance just as customers should buy your products or services because they believe they have value. "Yep, their name recognition certainly makes it easier for them to make a noise about their companies than it is for startup entrepreneurs and small business people who try to do the same. But I still think there's an important lesson to be learned here. And that lesson is about persistence. You see, like every business person starting out, both these titans once had much less recognition than they do today. That recognition and the large revenue streams they now enjoy are the result of steady building over years. The important point in any business is to stay alive long enough for the cumulative effects of that effort to pay off. To do so, it's important to keep your business in the minds of potential customers in any way you can. We're all limited only by our imaginations, not by our pocket books."How To Identify If Your Website Has Been Penalized
"Downgrading is very different than loosing your indexing completely. It's probably best not to become overly obsessed with where you rank unless you see a persistent drop and aren't able to alter it. The Net is a fluid thing with more content being added daily. Realize much of this content may change your positioning and correct accordingly."Sales Loudmouth: Bitter Medicine
"Or could it be the other two stations that were competing with yours really WERE the better choices? It's often hard for businesses to understand that in the end a customer may simply not want what you are offering. And no amount of perks or favors or attempts to buy their business will change the fact that spending money on what they don't want is not in their best interest. Go ahead and take another shot if you like. It will probably be futile...and a waste of time. Why not spend that time finding someone who does want what you have to offer? "20 Small Business Blogs That Have The Right Stuff
"I'm more familiar with some of these blogs than others and agree with you in the case of the ones on your list I read regularly. Martin, for startups, there's a whole breed of entrepreneurial blogs I like, many written by VCs though I'm more of a bootstrapper myself. I'd recommend Guy Kawasaki's blog and Pure VC by James Chen. Also like Feld Thoughts by Brad Feld and A VC by Fred Wilson...and then, of course, there's Seth Godin's blog. "Subscribe
