A Lesson On Business Chivalry from the Skies of the First World War...Over the Western Front
"Another classic Yoni. Some people take business competition to extremes that are unhealthy, both personally and for the company. Too many people and too many companies treat the competition like the enemy. My competitors are competitors, not enemies. Some of them might even be my friends and in 5 years time our companies might work together. Sometimes I have to remind myself about that distinction but I think it's really important. "Top 4 Google Ranking Factors for 2011
"Hi Amabaie Thanks for the comments. That's a good point about the on-page being finite. In fact, I think it's part of Google's problem. There is no end to the amount of anchor text and links that can be thrown at a page. I think they'll need to change that (although I see no evidence that they are going to). In practice, I find there is usually considerable on-page work that can benefit sites and often there is an edge to be had there when competitors have thrown link work at the problem and not "maxed out" on-page. Also, I suppose it depends a lot on how good machines get at interpreting both content quality and relevance. There is only so much one can do with standard on-page factors but I think the engines will continue to look for non-standard on-page factors. Also, with assessing the difference between Site A - which has plenty of links and 1 page on this subject with standard on-page SEO backed up by link text and Site B - which has a collection of high quality documents on this and several related topic areas."Is a fear of SPAM hurting your business?
"Nice post. I Couldn't agree more on all points. Even if you never think a single real customer will ever use your postal address, they would still want it to be on your website as a sign that you can be trusted. Who wants to deal with a company that won't list their address or phone number."Trends in Irish Internet Marketing - A St Patrick's Day Special
"Thanks Yoni. I suppose we'd have to assume that they are refering to permission based email campaigns where the users have signed up to receive the emails. Newsletters and other opt-in email marketing are still very popular and very powerfull. "TV Advertising, Traditional Marketing and SEO
"Thanks Yoni The amounts being spent on large-scale TV ads and similar offline campaigns are pretty huge. Given today’s operating environment I’d hope that even those with deep pockets are looking at every way to max out their bang for buck. If you’re lucky enough to have the budget to be running this kind of marketing, then integrating SEO and Social has massive potential. You are of course right that few people go past page 2 on Google. Depending on the search and what results are turned up, few people get to page 2 and the top few results on page 1 hog the vast majority of the clicks. "Picking Out the Experts from the Actors: 10 Tips to Help You Decide Who to Trust Online
"Hi Adam Really good article. I love points 7,8,9 and 10. Strangely enough, I thought I hated point number 1 but then I got to: "Just keep in mind though, that the quality of the feedback you receive will be dependent on the quality of the relationships you have built up with the people in your online social circles." That's a very important point. I've always liked the notion of looking for expertise rather than experts. To me, an expert is someone who is good at the self promotion game. Expertise is something I can use and get value from. If I can find expertise without paying the expert premium, so much the better. "Twitter, Social Media Signals and Google Rankings - A Serious Analysis
"Thanks Jackie and Yoni. I was just thinking about it there and I can probably make it even more simple. People tweeting links to your site is good for you. The more important those people are on Twitter the better it will be. And, this will only get more important as time goes by. There's a bit more than that in the post but that's what it comes down to."Subscribe
