Must Haves for Your Small Business Website
"Hi Brittany. I agree with what Patricia said about keeping videos short (I'd say less than 4 minutes, Maximum - no matter who you are, including the President). I see a video blog as something that should take the same time as reading a blog - if the blogger is asking me to spend 30 minutes or an hour, I feel they're likely delusional. Blocks of time that long are reserved for Hollywood TV shows, movies, and concerts - with top quality production values, not droning talking heads instructing us or selling something. In some cases, I sense video is used as a "secret weapon" to decrease the bounce rate (which is what you mentioned in the article), but it can backfire. "Hi Martin. Something tells me Ted Turner & the Donald don't have any problem with #2 - "You Have to Like Yourself First". Celebrities never do hear "no", or "That's the dumbest thing you've said in the last 10 minutes" like the rest of us do. All they hear all day long is "Yes - you're soooo smart - I wish I was 1-1/1,000th as good and pure and precious and neat and noble as you!", or "How do you come up with so many spectacular, stupendous, wondrous ideas??" Or the classic: "You're even better looking than the last time I saw you!- have you lost weight?" "Hi Yoni. When I was a kid, Cleeb'm had a few good players - Lou "The Toe" Groza was one of them. As a place kicker, he played later into life than the rest - into his 40's, more than a bit shy of 61. Duncan "Business 101: A Good Management Lesson to Learn
"Interesting, Laura. Most restaurants were so desperate in the '90's, the only thing an employee had to do was show up - sometimes, and be on-time once in a while. Management/owners/franchisees needed bodies at stations, and they settled - big time. (People who punched holes in walls weren't fired, for example.) The one benefit of working in a restaurant then was that you knew the place next door was desperate for help if things went bad where you were. I've also worked with some younger people still living with their parents who just wanted money for clothes, booze, and cigarettes - so their work ethic was non-existent. That was when I realized that the work ethic - not fatherhood (especially in light of dead-beats & abusers), is what separates a man from a boy. But I also had the pleasure of working with young people who Did have an adult work ethic. Duncan"How To Get Things Done Without Ordering
"Culture is of utmost import, Anne - but what bugs me (and I see TV chefs who should know better do this all the time) is when they don't trim the garbage off - like the gnarly end of a tomato, or a funky part of an onion - they're happily mixing the garbage in with the rest so it will be served to paying customers (they can use it in reductions if they're of the "I can't waste food" mindset). (Graham Kerr - the Galloping Gourmet - once said when he ate out & that happened, he assumed they didn't care very much about him - and I agreed.) Duncan"Social Media for Call Centers: “Your Call Is Important To Us”. Really?
"Good tips for call center analytics, Fred. Ultimately, I'd say the main thing is how well the operators are trained, and that there are enough of them to handle the queue. The automated menu system is only going to cause headaches - and suggesting people go to the website is a double-whammy because most people who Have computers would do that first, then call - the elderly will call w/no thought of going online, and w/no computer access. (I know it bugged the heck out of me to be told that when I had no access just over a year ago.) Duncan"Subscribe
