38 Tips on Saving Money and Preventing Waste in Your Business
"Hi M.D. Good tips. For #5, it's also possible to have a bulletin board everyone is compelled to view when they check in each day - then you don't have to pass it around, which can be tricky if there's more than one shift, or people have the day off. "Hi Priyaflorence. Good article, but sometimes generalities that divide groups of individuals into stereotypes as to behavior bother me on the grounds that indeed, we are All individuals. (Maybe it's because my teen years were spent in the late '60's.) I, for one, do not fit into many of the low-brow stereotypes about men - I have a hard time watching baseball on TV (not just because I live in the Cleeb'm franchise area) - because the commercials are directed at what are apparently accepted* male stereotypes. Most beer commercials are so inane they actually make me angry, I don't fit in with the "no-gray-beard" bit (my beard is gray, and I'm fine with it), nor am I into pick-up trucks. *Male stereotypes, and the many stereotypes about other groups, or other cultures, were never accepted by me. Stereotypes are ultimately divisive, and though they may at first seem to be a convenient way of putting large groups of people into neatly labeled little boxes, they solve nothing in the end. "Hi Jenny. I'm not exactly well-versed on Chinese business (to say the least), but I remember reading that they have their own search engine - not the big G (I think it's Baidu). Further, the Chinese Gubmen block FaceBook, YouTube, and Twitter. That cancels out the normal online channels our businesses use. Besides, truth be told, I'm sure they'd prefer it if we just bought their exports, and only sent certain protected compu-chips, etc., to them. Our Gubmen have made us suckers for far too long to be taken seriously as exporters now - not that our businesses wouldn't Love the chance. "Dazzlin' Donna is right, Ileane! Not only should we take stats with a grain of salt due to the vagaries of how they were arrived at, but we should sometimes wonder about ulterior motives - especially when there's an affiliate angle involved (how many people really use smartphones in the US, or which brand - there could easily be a ve$ted intere$t. For my favorite "load of x", I pick "load of doodoos" (pronounced dooDOOs in French), though I also briefly considered "kaka". Duncan "45 Ways to Save Money
"Hi Miranda. For #18, soda can replace real fruit juice - it's far cheaper (a buck a 2-liter), and the sugar-free versions have a billion less calories. I tried water for 4 years, and felt no health benefit, plus I tasted by own breath all day - so I had to buy Wintergreens, which ruined my teeth. Back on diet pop & doin' fine. I have #19 covered - my last haircut was July 2001. Duncan"Subscribe
