Why and How You Should Take Chances With Your Blog
"I haven't seen the other post or video, but I give you credit Tristan for trying to handle harsh comments in a positive way. I will try to find that post to understand the situation better, but even if you made a mistake in including Hitler it appears you've not meant any ill will. And you've made a fair outreach to get people to write you directly. There are a lot of bullies and hotheads out there and its tough to ignore them or treat them kindly when they come at you. Hats off for being a reasonable person. And not escalating a negative situation. "Hitler Finds Out About Blogging [VIDEO]
"I've written and rewritten this comment... BizSugar is an amazingly cool community. Lots of smart and reasonable and respectable people hang out here. Some of the content isn't to my liking, but I don't pick up my toys and scream and leave when I see it. Nor do I threaten the blogger who produced it, in so many words. I move on. I work with Anita and I serve on the advisory board here. Anita and I do not always agree, but I have to agree on let freedom of speech reign. I don't have to like or approve of everything that's here. I'm not here to defend Anita, by the way, she's more than capable of doing that herself. But I do think this has gotten way out of hand. I'm not looking to argue or start a fight, far from it -- I'm friends with many of the people here, even when we disagree. But you'll have to boycott most of the web, including Google, YouTube, NYTimes.com, and many many others who have posted some parody of an atrocious figure in history. The video may be tasteless and offensive to most, but the way we're approaching this is not reasonable or decent either. BizSugar isn't condoning what Hitler did by allowing a meme to be shared here. The good things about BizSugar far outweigh the bad and I find it sad that smart people would abandon a good community because of a post and video that will likely vanish in the near future. We are only helping to keep it alive and prospering. "Are Free and Hope Your Marketing Strategies?
"I've done similar things to Yoni and have always felt really good doing it. Often, what takes me just a bit of effort like Yoni did -- can yield the start of a great relationship. But i see your points, Susan, about free and hope. They are not strategies, but what Yoni did was focused and pointed (which you agree with, i know). Even though I have a more established client base now, I still do some of this. I often build Wordpress sites for people just to show them how easy it is for them to manage themselves. I make $100 to $150 for doing it, but the love I get back is way more valuable... And that love is often in the form of more contract work, more referrals. I helped them get out of the gate... Bravo to you Susan for a great post and discussion."Subscribe
10 Mobile Shopping Apps That Are Changing the Retail Landscape
"Fiona, I knew about a few of these and almost didn't click through, but I'm so glad I did. Even writing about mobile apps pretty often doesn't mean I'm completely caught up. For example, I love MILO, but didn't know it was acquired nor that it was now integrated or integrating with RedLaser. Wow. Very cool. So much is changing, so fast. I'll see about incorporating these into a future post, with a hat tip to you, of course!"
