Crowdsourcing & Social Media
"To me the benefit of crowd-sourcing has to do with finding out what customers really want...as opposed to guessing and trying to convince them you know best after the fact. It's a new term but the worlds of business, politics and just about every other endeavor that touches upon the public sphere could learn a great deal from talking to their constituents instead of at them. "3 Ways to Build Your Tribe
"Wow, Zane. Really like the list of ways to destroy a tribe in your link as well. Here are some others: --Sacrifice the needs of the tribe for your own --Stop leading --Cater to the lowest common denominator Not as obvious maybe as the ones in your post, but, I think, equally valid. Tribes do want to be lead but not to be dictated to and they must believe that their leader knows where he/she is going and that the destination will be a better place that will benefit them."The End of Social Media. What's Next? by @shanegibson
"It sometimes seems to me that the online business community and thus the WHOLE business community is working at a different pace and perhaps in a different direction than other early adopters of new technology. This said, it raises the question of whether some will never really discover social media (at least Facebook or Twitter) or use them much at all or whether others will adopt them later and for quite different purposes. Even now the podcast seems much older technology to some than it does to the business community. Lastly "social media" describes the use of this media at present far more than it describes the tools of blogging/microblogging themselves. Cheaper media platforms than an earlier era of Internet technology and the use of increasingly collaborative technology seems to be the path to the future and it seems hard to believe that this will change anytime soon."Why The Baker Should Not Be Running The Bakery — And Other Tips For Entrepreneurs | Epicenter | Wired.com
"I definitely agree that entrepreneurship isn't all fun and games. I'm not sure it follows that a person with a natural aptitude for something shouldn't get involved in it simply because of that fact. They simply must have the ability to have some detachment allowing them to think of what they are doing as a business first and foremost. This is different than saying a baker shouldn't run the bakery. "Lack of Civility: Why Are People Misbehaving?
"I think there are times when less civil behavior becomes inevitable during periods of political unrest on intense issues such as civil rights. Protests against Iran's controversial elections spring to mind here though this lack of civility was largely on the part of the government. What is so disturbing about the issues raised above is their pettiness. Lack of civility over an awards ceremony or during a speech by the President of the Unites States when clear avenues for debate are already open."What are the best Strategies for Collecting E-Mail Addresses? Ask Scott Fox
"Think collecting e-mails is definitely important but before you worry about getting them from your site visitors make sure you don't forget the people who have actually sent you e-mails. Put them all in one place not strewn throughout your received file to be combed through and located later. (Of course, you never will.)"Subscribe

"I really like the agricultural analogies here (planting, harvest) a really great way to drive these ideas home and make them memorable!"
