Only 38% of Small Businesses Have a Website
"Justan, I'm wondering how many of those who do have Websites have a blog as opposed to a static rarely updated site that probably isn't doing them much good in terms of online visibility anyway. I think by suggesting WordPress you're at least killing two birds with one stone by sparing small businesses the expense of paying way too much this late in the game for a flashy old school static or nearly static Website that will pretty much just sit there producing very little in the way of value. Sorry. Had to get that off my chest. "25 Legal Tips for Small Business in 25 Minutes
"SBTV does often post material of variable technical quality but I've rarely seen some of the legal advice contained here combined all in one place before. Some of this information is stuff you very rarely hear when considering both how to start a business and how to protect your assets after the fact. It's the kind of advice you rarely get before either paying the attorney or attending an event like this one which obviously we can't all do. Thanks for the feedback."Avoid Seminars with Social Media Experts
"Hi Justan, Enjoy the posts but respectfully think this may be a bit of a reach. Though you may be correct about one academic definition of expertise, I wouldn't be so quick to miss the opportunity to pick someone else's brain when it comes to social media. Their experience will almost certainly be different than yours and so you will end up learning something. Just don't get hung up on the "expert" label and even if the person has no idea what's going on you will have an opportunity to figure out what not to do. Just my two cents. "Only 4% Follow Brands on Twitter!?
"It's interesting how this compares with the number of people who use Twitter for business. Then again, perhaps the real question is whether people on Twitter consider an individual a brand. If I tweet as myself and I also have a business, do people consider following me the same as following a brand? It could still result in business, of course, and if so was it me or my brand that brought it in. Or are they one and the same? "The Top 50 Multi-Unit Franchises
"Joel, I find this very fascinating as I did your post on Master Franchise packages. I guess the only question I would have is what motivation might a franchisee have to decide to be a Multi-Unit franchise owner from the beginning? Wouldn't it make more sense to try a single unit first and expand later? A 10 percent discount just doesn't seem like enough of an incentive for the risk. And how do franchise companies decide who is "right" for this sort of opportunity?"Why Real-Time Search Won’t Last
"I think there's a tendency to overrate the downsides of some of these ideas. Sure, spammers will find (already are finding) ways to exploit real-time search. Organic Google search isn't perfect either or immune to these kinds of manipulations regardless how much search engines try to compensate. Like any other, these are tools with limitations."Subscribe
