Small Business Owners: How to Deal with Your Online Haters
"Hi Ivan, I commend your attitude and the way you have welcomed the negative reactions with open arms - that surely will neutralize a lot of the negativity. Bottom line is, statistically, there will always be a negative reaction on a SM or SN site. I don't know what the ratio is +ve versus -ve, but even on the MOST inspiring of blogposts or videos I have seen online, there is always ONE who will be derogative, negative, accusatory or worse! My way of dealing with negative people online and offline, is simply the thought "whatever they are saying is more about them than me" If they say they hate me (and don't know me) then they hate themselves, and I am merely the channel that they use to express that. Works for me every time :) "Top 8 White Hat SEO Tips for eCommerce Websites
"What a great comprehensive list Meghan, thanks for sharing the tips in such a way that non-developers understand. I know a lot of website owners actually do some of the tasks without realising the benefits and the consequences, so it's great to read HOW doing these tasks will benefit our websites, and our google juice. And boy it's hard work!"7 Security Information Buzzwords Every SMB Owner Should Know
"Some scary buzz words there - they sound like terms from a horror movie, techno style! Here in Ireland we have had huge problems with BYOD, employees not securing their laptops and mobile devices with the basics, like passwords. Another problem is physical theft - laptops being stolen from CFOs and Directors of large Insurance and Financial firms, with un-secured information like account details and financial information about customers - so it happens to the best of them. I believe it is the responsibility of everyone - the firm and the employee/director to protect their devices/information as BEST they can. Of course with the onset of cloud computing, this is posing greater problems for the smaller firms, and the more traditional firms, reluctant to move to the cloud. Education and awareness are key. Great words! Typosquatting I assume can be also used to defame or detract traffic from a legitimate site"Are You Living Up to Your Own Expectations?
"How do I do it? I get out of my own way (when I can)! As your post highlights, it's not enough to live up to another person's expectations, like living another's dream. Lovely points made Barbara, it is so important to check in with ourselves every now nad then, just to ensure we are being authentic and true to self :)"Do You Know Three Core Ways to Drive Performance in Business?
"A great post Warren, Self-Awareness really resonates with me. If we are fully self-aware and can know why we do the things we do, that will allow us be authentic about our business and business model, and even unique :) That in turn encourages creativity and provide us with a USP (unique selling point) for our business and products/services. People are generally passionate about their natural talents, that's why it's more important than ever to be authentic, and shine through. If we only give 50%, we can only achieve maximum 50% (or less) Great post, thanks!"Ford's Social Business Model, Seeks Multi-Directional Expressive Capability!
"Hi John, Your post made me think of B2C and C2B. It seems to me both can work. I always imagine a company like Apple producing beautiful products and the masses amassing to buy them (very much B2C). I call this refine and launch. On the other side, Microsoft for example, launch a mediocre product and rely on consumer feedback for improvement. I call this launch and refine. Both seem to work in the space they are in, and I appreciate now with the onslaught of consumer social, companies (like Ford have) need to get involved in the conversation, as it will take place with or with out them. Most impressive for me is the power the consumer can have, and it is so right that we get to talk openly and honestly about what we spend our money on (including customer service). Where many companies are afraid of social, Ford have proved that you can control the conversation to some degree, and keep your consumer on side. Great post John, thanks!"How Collaboration Creates Growth For Your SME
"One of the most successful collaboration and cooperation stories I have seen is Tweak Your Biz (and formerly Bloggertone). The community is respectful, friendly, trusting, helpful and always open to a bit of banter :) I am always so impressed both in Ireland and online, when small business owners get together, great things happen. We know that "going it alone" is foolish, when there is so much support and resources out there to avail of, tap into and contribute to. Humans were never meant to be alone, we are social, naturally form alliances, circles and are naturally waring (is that a word?) so whether we are collaborating or fighting, we are doing it with each other. Our business can only benefit from this interaction. We could minimise the fighting of course, if we left our fears and pride in the dishwasher with the cereal bowl in the mornings :) Great post Elli, thank you!"Six Things Apple Taught me About Blogging
"Apple have a lot to teach us all about a lot of things. Your points are well made, Ben. Tribes are building everywhere, whether in circles, hangouts, groups etc and it's natural for us to group together and interact with people who are like us, or have similar interests. It builds rapport - "I am like you, you can like me" Once a tribe comes together, it must be cherished, respected and supported. This can be done online with great and relevant content."Subscribe
Beware Of Things That Hack Your Productivity
"Hi Jane, A fine comprehensive list - I am sure we can all identify with at least half of the points. I blogged this week about some of them that are stress related on the site TeakYourBiz. Without direction, we can waste time, procrastinate, miss deadlines, not get things done, become disillusioned - the list could go on and on. As long as we are aware, that is half the battle, and we can do something about it. Great post, thanks! "
