Confessions of a Content Marketer
"I think what he meant was that Da Vinci painted all the time but only had a few real masterpieces. If he considered a masterpiece the only thing worthy of viewing, we would be denied a lot of great artwork. If he'd try to paint the Mona Lisa again, he would have been accused of lack of originality. Many writers get caught up in the perfection cycle. If you wait for something to be perfect, you'll never get ANY content out there. I also think Pulizzi was saying to take some risks. Allow yourself to be imperfect. You never know what might happen. Thanks for your comment. That point resonated with me specifically because I always have a nagging feeling my stuff would be better if I just had more time. If I had all the time in the world, I'd probably never get anything out the door. "Confessions of a Content Marketer
"You also hit on a good point. Some of those masters, da Vinci and Michelangelo for two, were really just guns for hire. The Medici family kept them on contract, more or less, so they weren't pressured to produce greatness with every stroke of the brush like artists are now. Having said that, these guys were seriously great in ways I can't even fathom. (Can you imagine the term Renaissance Man being coined if they weren't around?) But not all their work measures up to the Sistine Chapel, the Last Supper, the sculpture of David or the Mona Lisa. You don't come much closer to consistent perfection than Beethoven. I would hate to think of all the wonderful music we would be without if other composers only published when they could compare and compete. "How “Old School” Habits Can Beat Writer’s Block
"I LOVE the idea of using old photo albums for inspiration. When I find a really good research report, I'm brimming with excitement about how to use it. But then you can't do too many posts on the same topic close together so I move on to something else. I'm often surprised to find handwritten notes in margins from months before that give me the perfect blog post idea. Thanks for your comment."What Makes You Special | M4B Marketing
"Hi Susan, You've performed a great service with this post. I nearly weep with boredom every time a small business owner tells me they have great service. When I ask them what that means, they can almost never articulate it because they haven't really thought about it before. In a lot of cases, they DON'T deliver much in the way of service at all. Thanks for making us all stop and think about how we really are different. Cheers, Sarah"Marketing Lessons from a Big City Christmas Event
"I think the kids actually fared better than the adults - they didn't know just how bad it was. But you're right, it was something straight out of a sitcom. It wouldn't surprise me if Mel Brooks was an inspiration. The big difference is Mel Brooks is funny! Thanks for stopping by. Cheers, Sarah"People Friend People (Not Logos)
"I totally agree about the importance of relationships and the power held by small businesses to form them. Personally, I always feel like the logo is a mask. It deters me from dealing with them. That's probably not entirely fair but it sort of freaks me out a little. Cheers, Sarah"3 Easy Steps for Dealing with Social Media Hecklers
"Thank you so much for your tweet and Facebook share! I think the hard thing about online hecklers is they often behave in a way they wouldn't in a public setting. When you add alcohol or other behavior-changing substances emotions escalate pretty quickly. The problem for business is you have to address the issue in a public forum. That's making a lot of people reluctant to get involved in social media at all. Thanks again! Cheers, Sarah"Subscribe
