Facebook Marketing: The Ugly Truth About FanPages
"I agree with others that FB is just a channel. And it's one you don't have full control over. I'm a big proponent of having a blog as your core content hub, since it stays under your control, and you can then syndicate your content out to a FB page (and Twitter, etc). "The Right Way To Market With Blog Comments
"Ivan, Thanks for the extremely helpful, practical advice. I really appreciate when someone takes the time to explain the detailed, step-by-step 'how to' instructions about something that seems like it should be obvious, but I still have never really learned how to do it. I will follow your instructions to the letter. Thanks again."Three ways bloggers just gotta have fun
"Thanks for the reminder about having fun. Like other things in life, it becomes easier to relax & have fun with blogging the more experience you get and the more comfortable you feel with the basics. I particularly like the idea of breaking out of your "work" focus and commenting on hiking, biking, & other "fun" blogs. Makes you a more well-rounded blogger too!"Why Is Simple So Hard :: Duct Tape Marketing
"I used to work in PR, and one of the big values we offered to clients was to take the role of the uninformed and use that to force clients to be simple & clear in their communications to press & the public. People often accuse PR flaks for being stupid - but there's huge value in forcing simplification. If you're steeped in the details in your own business, it often takes an outsider to force you to simplify and clarify."Subscribe
Eight Lessons I Learned My First Year As A Blogger
"Yoni, I so appreciate and respect your comment - thanks for taking the time, and for your kind words. I love comments as a way to have an intelligent discourse with colleagues and peers. And, of course, I'm still learning on the blogging front. As for the issue of writing from your own perspective, I think my point comes from my personal experience. I spent many years in technology marketing, and now work with many clients in the tech sector who have a traditional 'push marketing' approach - a natural inclination to say "here's what my product does and why you should buy it" rather than "here's an issue you may be facing, let me offer a perspective that may help you." We give lots of coaching on how to turn around from a push to a pull mentality, which is what I think differentiates 'social marketing' from traditional marketing and has, in fact, turned the profession of marketing on its head. That said, I appreciate and agree with your point that a good blog is one that shows some personality and personal experiences of the blogger -- much like a good editorial columnist. Frankly, though, I think that comes with time and practice. Step 1: move from being a marketer to being a writer; Step 2: move from being a writer to becoming a blogger; Step 3: move to becoming a good blogger with a distinct personality. Maybe I'm over thinking it - but I think I'll turn this into a new blog post! Cheers! cindy "
