Why Most “Do You Have What It Takes To Be An Entrepreneur” Articles Are a Waste of Time
"Yoni, It's amazing how these "molds" can affect how others view us as well as how we view ourselves. It's very hard to break a socially-accepted mold, even though many times it's appropriate. The case of your seventh grade counselor is extreme... and dangerous (IMO, that person should not have become a counselor in the first place, let alone of kids). My point: as much value as there is in seeking outside advice, corroberation, and yes, sometimes *even* those molds, at the end of the day, a person has to look inside to know where he should be going- whether in business or in life. "Great analogy, Duncan... Aside from the technical qualities like strength, speed, physique, and skill, there are two things that make a really good boxer: 1. How he handles when he's getting smashed. It's not just about being able to defend himself; it's about what's going on in his head. A good boxer knows how to pick himself up- even of it doesn't happen in that round, or even in that fight. He still wants to keep fighting and he still believes that he can win. And 2. How much does he really want to win in the first place. You're right, pressure and setbacks have a great way of forcing a person to see where he's really holding, and I agree that many people go into entrepreneurship full of hopes, but then quickly realize it's just not for them as the realities of running a business set in. Just hopefully for them they're not getting "cleaned" in other ways. Adam "You Say You Want to Boycott Israeli Businesses? Okay, Start by Giving Up These Modern Amenities...
"Nice post, Yoni. The statement "let's boycott..." (fill in the blank) sounds big and important. But many times it's just talk; people are often quick to pick and choose what they are going to avoid. "Hi Rochelle, I can certainly understand why you and your peers are so worried about the job market; if you exclude Wall Street and anything connected to it, then it's not a pretty site... You don't have to listen to me, but my feeling is that the economic problems that exist right now are too deep and too global for the market to be so vastly different two, or even four years from now. So unless you can afford it- meaning you won't have more debt to worry about- then in my opinion, hiding away in university probably won't help you much. That said, there *are* people out there who are running successful businesses- even today. For you, it will depend on what industry you're interested in, how well you're able to establish a niche, and how much you really enjoy the line of work that you are in. If you *really* want to be successful (however you define success for yourself) and you do the work, then you can be. If there's no opening... then make one. Good luck! "Hi Rochelle, :) "I guess 16 was not enough?" I don't think it goes like that. Some kind voter has to come along and deem it worthy of the front page... Thanks for thinking of me though... Tell Yoni I said "Hi" and thanks for the vote in absentia. Adam "Are You Passionate About Your Business? The Challenge of Running Your Own Company
"Hi Cindy, If you *are* able to reconnect to your original motivation and passion, then that's a very good sign for your business because not everyone can get back to that point so easily- especially when their business is struggling. Good luck riding out this period. If you can, then use the time to look for ways to make your business stronger. Adam "How to test a Social Media guru! Hoverme Hover card.
"Some good tools here! I think a lot of people don't bother to look too deeply into the backgrounds of their marketing/social media consultants, and they get burnt as a result. These services will at least help to weed out the real experts from the cons."Subscribe
Moore’s Law Now Applies To B2B Selling: Are You Ready?
"Very interesting post, John My non-marketing expert opinion on all of this: There's an information overload going on affecting not only buyers in large-scale corporations, but also small business owners and consumers. The only real way to handle the deluge of facts, figures, images, video, sounds, etc is to shut it all out. Aside from the points you mentioned in your post, this is a big part of the reason why sellers are struggling to command the attention of potential buyers- they have to keep figuring out ways to make their message stand out, to break through the natural apathy and numbness that quickly follows two steps behind the most successful, striking, and poignant marketing strategies. As much as a seller may need to be in touch with the current, ever-changing state of the buy-sell relationship, don't forget the selling fundamentals! In a sea of those who are screaming to get their message heard, a seller's calm, sincere, and deliberate approach may actually stand out as a breath of fresh air. Adam "
