What is a Social Network?
"I've seen Chris's discussion on this before and agree fully. While I'm a big proponent of social networks, I think you've got to look at the value of each. For bloggers or anyone promoting a Website, that means carefully monitoring whether enough people from a particular community are actually visiting your Website or whether there are any outside referrals you can trace to your membership. This is not to say that your participation in social networks should be limited to plugging your other online sites, but certainly you would hope that anyone interested enough in joining your group would also want to check out what you're up to elsewhere on the Web. Tools like Google Analytics make it easier than ever to see where your visitors are coming from and hence which social networks are giving you results."How to Use Audio Microblogging for Your Work
"Somehow the distinction between a mini podcast and regular podcast seems harder to grasp than the difference between a blog post and a Tweet. I'm assuming video is next even though some YouTube videos are already only a minute or two. How much shorter can they really get?"The Health-Care Mandate and Small Businesses
"None of this discussion addresses the key problems related to the health care market like loosening regulation that would help small business, and maybe individuals, pool risk across state lines and in other ways for a consumer driven try at reforming the cost of health insurance. It's a pity that few proposals look at giving the power in health care back to the customer."The ONE Thing You Should Do in Social Marketing
"It's probably also worth saying, though I think it's a subtext in your points here, that blogging replaces the concept of more expensive, less focused mass marketing where you're paying a big media outlet tons of money to broadcast a message most of their audience will ignore for less expensive, more focused marketing with keywords attracting smaller audiences already interested in your product or service at a much lower cost (even if you pay someone else to create your blog or pay for a premium platform.) "I'll Know It When I See It and Top 100 Sales Blogs
"As I've said before here on this community, I come from more of an entrepreneurial than straight sales perspective. This said, I know that my general comment to a sales person is that I'm "just looking." (Bet you that one always made you cringe too!) Problem is, when I say that, it's exactly what I mean. Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the need to sell a product and do the best to market my own services to people I believe may benefit. But I don't necessarily want to explain the reason for my store visit to a sales person unless I know they're really committed to helping me---even if that means they won't make a sale today or that they need to tell me they don't have what I'm looking for. Ultimately, as an entrepreneur I believe a product or service must excite a customer and that, while good presentation may help this effort, an attempt at good presentation of a product I don't need or want will never sell me. This, I think, is the real reason customers are "just looking" or will know it when they see it. The experience of too many attempts to sell them what they don't want instead of finding out what they need. "Are Franchise Companies Ready For A Growth Spurt?
"A part of this post implies that some of the potential franchise owners are victims of layoffs. (The fact that there are some talking about being unwilling to spend energy on a job search.) With this in mind, I'm wondering: 1. What are the options for even a recently laid off person seeking financing to start a franchise and from where might this financing come? 2. Are there options for assistance from SCORE, the SBA or state or local governments perhaps as part of the stimulus package and is the barre for approval higher or lower than with an unproven startup marketing an unproven product?
